1. The Institutional Orderbook (CLOB)

- Matching: All order matching happens off-chain in the EdgeX matching engine. This is why it feels instant. There are no gas fees for placing or cancelling orders, and no waiting for block confirmations.
- Settlement: Once a trade is matched, the state transition is bundled into a batch. StarkEx generates a Zero-Knowledge Proof (STARK proof) attesting to the validity of this batch.
- Verification: This proof is submitted to Ethereum Layer-1, where a smart contract verifies it.
This architecture means that while the execution is centralized for speed, the settlement is decentralized for security. The exchange cannot forge a trade or steal funds because the ZK-proof would not pass verification on Ethereum if the math didn’t add up.
3. The “Forced Withdrawal” Guarantee
